Home well repair and drilling in Abita Springs, LA
Abita Springs has always been about its water. Visitors came for the springs in the 1800s, the first artesian wells were drilled in 1888, and private wells went in behind homes and hotels. Today, many homes in and around town still rely on a well of their own, some of them decades old. We repair those wells, replace worn pumps and tanks, and drill new wells built to today's standards.
- Diagnose first before replacing parts
- 160 PSI pipe for added durability
- Metal fittings at critical connections
- Direct-line installs for stronger flow
A little history, and what it means for your well.
Abita's water story is part of what makes the town. Here's how that history connects to the well on your property.
A town built on its water
The springs drew visitors from New Orleans in the 1800s. After the first artesian wells were drilled in 1888, private wells followed behind the hotels and homes, and the water itself was bottled and shipped out.
Springs then, wells now
Many of Abita's original springs have been capped or have run dry. If you have an older well that has slowed down or stopped working, it may need a pump, a repair, or proper plugging.
Artesian is about pressure, not quality
An artesian well taps a sand where the water is under pressure, so it rises up the casing on its own. That says nothing about what's in the water, so test it no matter how deep or famous the source.
Keep the old ones working. Build the new ones right.
Repairs on older home wells, pump and tank replacement, new home wells, and garden wells for homes on town water.
Repairs for older home wells
Older wells around Abita tend to wear out in familiar places: pumps, pressure switches, corroded fittings, and wiring that was never protected. We trace the problem to its source before replacing anything, and when parts go in, they're upgrades, with 160 PSI poly pipe and galvanized barb fittings. We also service existing 2-inch wells.
- Diagnosis first
- Corroded fittings replaced
- 2-inch wells serviced
Pump and pressure tank replacement
Pressure that fades over months, a pump that cycles constantly, or one that runs and runs usually means a worn pump or a tank that's lost its air charge. We size replacements to your household instead of matching whatever was there before, and protect the wiring in conduit. Filter changes and new installs are part of the same visit.
- Right-sized replacements
- Pressure tank air charge
- Filter service
New wells, built to today's standards
When an old well isn't worth saving, or you're building new, we drill a well built to current state rules. We read the cuttings to set the screen in the best sand, build in 4-inch or 6-inch casing, grout and seal it so surface water can't follow it down, and register it with the state.
- Current state standards
- 4-inch & 6-inch casing
- State registration filed
Garden and landscape wells
Homes on town water can still use a private well for gardens, lawns, and landscaping. The well runs as its own system, completely separate from the house plumbing, and we size it to the zones you want to water with direct-line piping and fewer 90-degree turns.
- Separate from house plumbing
- Sized to your zones
- Direct-line installs
Careful with old wells, honest about the fix
An older well deserves a real look before anyone starts swapping parts or drilling a new one. Robert and Evan Wiener run Northshore Well Service as a family business from Folsom, with a home base in Covington, both just minutes from Abita Springs. Customers rate us 5.0 out of 5 on Google and Facebook, and they say the same thing in different ways: we explained what was going on before we fixed it.
- Older wells diagnosed before any recommendation
- Repair and replace options priced side by side

Abita Springs well questions
What Abita Springs homeowners ask us most, from old wells to town water.
My older well's pressure has been dropping for months. What's going on?
A slow decline usually points to wear rather than a sudden failure. Common causes are a pressure tank that has lost its air charge, a pump that's wearing out, a leak in the drop pipe, or a clogging screen. We test each one so you only pay to fix the cause.
Is artesian water better than regular well water?
Artesian describes pressure, not quality. Deep, confined sands are often well protected from surface contamination, but that doesn't guarantee good water. Iron, odor, and an old casing can all affect what comes out of the tap, so test it either way.
Can I use an old well I found on my property?
Possibly. We can check the well's condition and depth, and you should have the water tested. If the well is sound, it may be put back into service. If it isn't, it should be properly plugged so it doesn't become a path for contamination.
How do I know if my well was ever registered?
Wells drilled by licensed contractors are registered with the state, and those records are searchable in Louisiana's SONRIS online database. Very old wells may have no record at all. Previous owners, closing documents, or a tag on the wellhead can also help. If you're drilling a new well, we file the registration and give you a copy.
My house is on town water. Can I still have a private well?
Often, yes, for gardens, lawns, and landscaping. The well runs as a separate system and stays completely disconnected from your house's town water plumbing. We'll look at the property and confirm what's needed.
